Project Area: 400 m2
Location: Southdowns Estate Irene
The estate architectural guideline was very specific in what was to be designed in keeping with the aesthetic. The floor plan layout had to consist of a series of rectangular footprints interconnected to one another allowing for open plan living areas flowing effortlessly from one space to another.
The large covered verandah situated infront of the connected living area and large span stack door blurres the lines between inner and outer living opening out onto a timber pool deck and large garden space. The external aesthetic of this family home follows the farm style architecture of yesteryear with a modern contemporary approach with the use of modern building materials and elements evident on the facades.
The use of jaggered stone cladding gives abundant texture and depth to the exterior broken by smooth plastered walls punctured with high vertical scale aluminium window and door frames allowing abundant natural light to filter into the living spaces.
Entertainment is focused around a large covered verandah on the northern exposure leading out onto a swimming pool wrapped by a timber deck for those long hot summer months synonomus with the region.
Private bedroom spaces and a work study finds itself on the upper floor overlooking the pool deck and garden area. An oversize double garage on the street front connected to the entrance hall allows ease of access. The third single garage and a storage space with staff toilet finds itself segregated from the main building and creating a landscaped corridor to the front porch.
