Project Area: 470 m2
Location: Brooklyn Pretoria
A modern contemporary artwork showroom converted from an old suburban residential home into a gallery on a busy street in a old Pretoria suburb along a busy street.
The exterior aesthetic follows clean linear contemporary architectural lines on the major street front facade pierced by large glazed frontages and cast concrete slanted north-facing clear-storey roof structures that create internal height elevation over the two main showroom areas to enable 180 degree glazing to be utilized for maximum ambient light exposure into the building to the main showroom areas where artworks are displayed for viewing.
External materials are juxtaposed alongside one another in series with a combination of smooth plasterd and painted walls and framed timber cladding boxes and column uprights at the two entrances to the building horizontally pierced with floating cast conrete solar shading devices that protrude out from the street facing facade accentuating the linear architectural form of the structure which also houses external lighting fixtures for night display purposes onto the large glazed frontage with view from the parking area.
Additional vehicle parking is provided to the rear of the building accessable alongside the first entry from the main road. A artwork framing workshop is located at the rear parking area also utilized for deilivery and collection purposes.
