Project Area: 338 m2
Location: Waterkloof Pretoria
A low-slung glass pavilion perched on a gradually sloping site with vast suburban view to the northern exposure in a gated residential estate in the cityscape.
Floor to ceiling height glazing facades predominate towards the lush garden court and pool deck eliminating the line between interior and exterior living of this three bedroom family residence. The transparent living and bedroom spaces are cut through and segregated by a monolith cast concrete tower rising above the two wings housing the main entrance hall and home studio office above accessable by a sclulptural spiral staircase.
Living areas are open plan and uncluttered opening out onto a patio and timber deck walkway to the front facade inviting the outside in and all bedroom spaces also opening out onto the linear walkway connecting to the pool deck and entertainment area.
A glass framed steel facade that supports the main roof structure over the living and private spaces allows for exspansive framed views and similarly merging the indoor built program with the outdoor program as an extended footprint of the building envelope giving an overwhelming sense of openess and connection to the landscape and to the family living experience in this residential estate predominated by mostly typical typology designed residences.
Maintenance free building materials predominate externally consisting of raw face brick, off-shutter concrete, coated steel, glass, metal roof and wall cladding.
